In a little village lived a man who sold hats for a living. One day hw set out form having taken leave of his wife and children for whose sake he was working so hard. It was certainly not his lucky day. The sun has up and he was tired. Having seen a large tree by the side of a brook he decided to refresh himself; have his lunch, and rest awhile.

There was nobody around. It seemed safe to steal a nap. Having kept the basket near his head, he covered his face with a hat and fell asleep.

“yeeek………!” “Yeeek………!” “Yeeek………!” “Huh………!” “Huh………1”

A gang of monkeys came trapezing in. They were having great fun. The sight of a strange monkey lying under the tree baffled them.

“A peculiar monkey, with no tail, has hardly any hair on him, wrapped in a rag”.

It is a big problem to them. They debate and argue among themselves. “There are monkeys called human-beings. They supposed to have come before us”.

“Nonsense, they came long after we had come”.
“They came late and so there were no tails and hair left over for them”.
“But they are supposed to have a brain”.
“Huh! of what use?”
“They cannot trapeze with a brain”.
“They can walk only on the ground”.
“They can’t live without houses”.
“They feel cold without rags”.
“Well then, we are the greater”.

They approach the strange monkey again, examine the basket of hats. Seeing that he looks fine with the hat on, they all try on the hats themselves. Oh! How smart they looked! They dance in glee and have a hearty laugh.

The hat-seller is awoken by this noise. He is confronted with a strange sight of a set of funny mokeys all wearing hats. I n a moment he realized what had happened. They were all his hats, and his basket was empty. He was very upset.

The monkeys ran up the tree. The poor hat seller began to run up and down in desperation. The monkeys quietly came down form the tree and began to imitate the hat seller in whatever he did in his anger. The hat seller realized that the monkeys were imitating him, and he had a bright idea is to how he could recover the hats. He reached for the hat on his head and taking it off, quietly approached the basked and dropped the hat into it.

The monkeys then took off their hats, approached the basked and dropped them in too. The hat seller pounced on the basket with glee and giving the monkeys no chance, he snatched it away and took to his heels.

The Monkeys jumped too, but found no basket! No hats! What happened?

“That’s right! He is a man!”
“You are right! He is a man!”
“Though no tail”, “Though no hair”, “He has a brain”, “That is a MAN”
